**IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION**
Make sure the taper fully engages in the spindle. Clean the female taper with some brake clean and put some sharpie on the stud, the shoulder on those long studs sometimes touches the spindle before the taper is actually locked in and it its not tightened correctly when it does so. Tighten it and break it back apart, if it comes out easily that’s an indication its not locking in the taper, if the sharpie is still there untouched then its for sure not tightening correctly. If that’s the case you need to take roughly .020 to .070 from the top flat surface of the spindle.
See the image below. The first picture is a 2WD spindle with the taper engaged correctly, the second image is an unmodified 4WD spindle with the shoulder hitting before its seated. The final pic shows a good sharpie test.
Only about 1/3rd or so customers have had this issue, so double check taper engagement before you tear the spindle off to modify it. A flap disc will work, a mill is ideal. The machined flat surfaces for the ball joint “bosses” are all parallel to one another so it could be bolted to a mill bed directly. The only surfaces that need to stay perpendicular to the stud bore are the ones the nuts seat on, opposite from where the modification needs to be made.
If that’s not something you want to do we *can* swap the studs out for shorter ones with no shoulder on them. These are .5″ taller than stock.
